Video-EEG Monitoring
Video-EEG Monitoring is a continuous EEG for a prolonged period of time paired with simultaneous video that records clinical signs such as physical movements. This helps doctors understand the brain activity associated with physical movements and can help doctors provide correct diagnosis of non-epileptic events versus seizures. Accurately diagnosing seizures and non-epileptic events helps patients avoid taking unnecessary medications.
Video-EEG can be ordered on an outpatient basis for a one to two hour monitoring session. It is also used in the intensive care units when patients are critically ill with a change in mental status and may have abnormal movements, such as tremors and twitching, that need to be differentiated from seizure activity.
