MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a strong magnetic field and a sophisticated computer system to create detailed, cross-sectional images of your body. These high-resolution images help doctors study the brain, spine, joints, chest, abdomen and pelvis. MR Angiography allows for noninvasive study of the vascular system.
Lake Health’s MRI services are accredited by the American College of Radiology, a distinction not shared by every MRI facility in the area.
Lake Health’s 3 Tesla MRI Unit at Beachwood Medical Center represents the newest and most advanced technology available today. Our 1.5 Tesla High Field MRI Units at TriPoint Medical Center, Lake West Medical Center, the Mentor Health Center, as well as the 1.2 Tesla High Field Open MRI Unit at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Wellness Center, are amongst the newest and most advanced technology available. How Can I Prepare for an MRI?
If your doctor has recommended an MRI to diagnose or examine a condition, our skilled imaging team will help walk you through everything you need to know before your exam. These steps can help you have a successful exam:
Because of the strong magnetic field, you’ll need to complete a short questionnaire about any metal objects in your body, including joint replacements, pacemakers, artificial valves, IUDs, implants, bullets or shrapnel. Surgical clips, pins, screws or staples usually do not cause a problem if they have been in place more than six weeks.
You will need to remove these items before the MRI exam: wallet, keys, dentures, purse, watch, hair clips, coins, credit cards, hearing aids, jewelry and glasses. For your safety, due to undetectable metallic thread in some clothing, you’ll be asked to change into a gown before your MRI.
Tell your physician or MRI technologist if you are or may be pregnant.
If you have known or suspected kidney disease, have diabetes or are over the age of 60, your physician may order lab work before the day of your exam to determine how well your kidneys are functioning.
If you have concerns about anxiety or claustrophobia, please talk about this with your physician. They may prescribe an oral sedative for you to take before your exam to help keep you comfortable. The 1.2T High Field Bore-less MRI at our Brunner Sanden Deitrick Wellness Campus offers more space to provide maximum comfort to patients of all sizes and those who suffer from claustrophobia. If you receive a sedative, you will need to have a family member or friend drive you home.
Please register 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Bring your physician order and a complete list of your medications, vitamins and supplements.
